OUR HISTORY
Location: St Kizito’s Catholic Church, Brainfield Avenue, Eliogbolo is situated midway between Rumuokoro roundabout and Eliozu roundabout by Clendac filling station along the East - West Road, Eliogbolo, Obi Akpor L.G.A, Rivers State.
Brief History:
St Kizito's Catholic Church is an offspring of Brainfield Secondary School Mass Centre. The commencement of this mass centre was made possible by the efforts of Engr. & Prof(Mrs) Brendan Obasi, the founders and owners of Brainfield Secondary School Eliogbolo Port Harcourt. Engr.& Prof (Mrs) Obasi who were parishioners of St. Jude's Catholic ChurchRumuokoro.They contacted the then Parish Priest Late Rev. Fr Patrick Prunty (SPS) severally with passionate appeal for the celebration of Sunday Masses for their resident students in the Hostel located at Brainfield Avenue.
This appeal was granted and by 7am on Sunday the 12th of November 2006, the Late Rev. Fr. Patrick Prunty himself in the company of Rev. Benjamin OgechiAgbara the then deacon in St. Jude's Catholic Church Celebrated the first mass in Brainfield Mass Centre in the Brainfield Hostel Hall. Those in attendance were Engr.& Prof (Mrs) Obasi, Bro. AlphonsusUdo who led the students Choir, Brainfield students and staff only. This later metamorphosed to what was called Brainfield Mass Centre/Catholic Chaplaincy and finally St.Kizito's Catholic Church Eliogobolo. Subsequently, Late Rev. FrPrunty assigned Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Anagwo a student-priest at The Catholic Institute of West Africa(CIWA) to assist him in celebrating Sunday Masses and other Church activities for students at theBrainfield Mass Centre while he also came periodically.
Later Permission was granted for other Catholics living within and around the school vicinity to attend masses at the Brainfield Mass Center
Rev. Fr Emmanuel Anagwo, Fr. Modestus Onuoha(OSA) and after him, Rev. Fr. Desmond Amaechi all helped the nurturing of the young Church at various stages.
St.Kizito’s Catholic Church marks her Patron Saint’s Feast day every 3rd June
